This manifesto outlines seven foundational principles designed to ensure that AI technologies prioritize user needs over the interests of powerful institutions.
Challenges of Centralized AI
In an engaging conversation with Cointelegraph, Patrick Friedrich, the CEO of Onicai, highlighted the dangers posed by centralized AI. He warned that powerful entities, including corporations and government agencies, can exploit these technologies to manipulate public opinion. Friedrich also stressed the unpredictable nature of self-sufficient AI agents, underscoring the importance of developing AI systems free from biases that serve the interests of a select few.
Friedrich believes that decentralized AI, operating on permissionless networks defined by characteristics like immutability, transparency, and open-source frameworks, could significantly alleviate issues related to censorship and misinformation. He suggested implementing a clear and transparent operational framework, granting users full control over how their AI systems function. This flexibility would enable individuals to use local storage, decentralized cloud services, or hybrid models, ultimately bestowing them with sovereignty over the AI technologies they engage with.

While Friedrich voiced concerns, Onicai’s chief technical officer, Arjaan Buijk, offered a more hopeful outlook on the potential of AI. He noted that many AI companies often focus on creating general-purpose models to maximize profits. Unfortunately, this trend stifles the development of specialized and niche AI solutions that could drive innovative growth across various industries.
To address this challenge, the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (ASI) launched the Cortex decentralized AI platform in November 2024.
